Flywire Launches Charitable Foundation To Foster Equality For The Underrepresented

6월 23, 2020

Flywire is looking to offer four scholarships to students from underrepresented areas or backgrounds studying medicine, global health and social justice, a press release from the vertical payments company says.

The applications for the scholarships are available through July 31 for any undergraduate or graduate students.

The scholarships are directly related to the main stories in the world for the past several months.

For global health and medicine, Flywire is looking to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, hoping to reach students who want to “accelerate the world’s focus on improving public health,” focusing on training a new generation of medical professionals, the release says.

And they want to address the continued racism against minority communities around the world, hoping to help out students studying social justice, so as to “support tomorrow’s leaders who will commit to eradicating racism, violence and other acts of intolerance against minorities,” the release says.

Flywire CEO Mike Massaro said the company was built on values of “equality, acceptance and partnership.”

“In light of current events, it’s our responsibility to take direct action to extend these qualities for the benefit of the communities we serve,” he said. “The academic scholarships we’ve launched are part of Flywire’s ongoing commitment to creating better opportunities for those seeking high quality healthcare, education and global culture. This is just a first step and the Flywire Charitable Foundation commits to doing much more to build a more just, inclusive and equitable society.”

Flywire also recently announced modifications to its healthcare plans, which will allow patients to set up personalized payment plans. The new option is useful for its potential to let people in financial hardship set up the plans that can work for them.

The option also includes a specific item to help COVID-19 patients navigate the financial landscape, offering lower temporary installment plans to aid with unexpected new circumstances.
