The opportunity: 

Flywire thrives on developing and bringing innovative payments solutions to market and believes that building and operating an outstanding company goes hand-in-hand with acting responsibly, ethically and in a compliant manner at all times. To support our continued growth in the EMEA region, Flywire is seeking a dedicated and experienced compliance director to lead these efforts and eventually serve as a designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer in the region. The role will report to the Global Compliance Director / Global AML Officer in Boston and to any regulatory-mandated senior officer of a relevant reporting entity.  

This will be a varied role working within our Compliance team, developing new work processes to support both the changing regulatory environment and the expansion of the business into new verticals. Experience in leading projects, quickly understanding new ideas and concepts, knowledge of payments licensing, payments in a post-Brexit environment, exemption and reporting requirements, and a background in financial compliance and knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML, and other regulations) is required.

Main In-Region Responsibilities:

  • Drive and own the regulatory compliance aspects of our business in EMEA and advise on AML regulations

  • Help with corporate governance of local entities and registrations throughout the region

  • Localize and administer an AML/CFT compliance programme and maintain a risk assessment to comply with applicable local requirements -- including transaction monitoring functions

  • Over time, own and manage the financial crimes and money laundering reporting officer (MLRO) roles 

  • Manage audits (both external and governmental, if any) 

  • Make regulatory filings (including suspicious activity reports (SARs))

  • Work on various projects and miscellaneous issues in the EMEA region such as partner audits, client onboarding, and product enhancements

Here's What We Are Looking For: 

  • Diploma holder

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services compliance, preferably in one or more of the following settings: (i) payments company; (ii) bank; and (iii) payments regulatory body. 

  • Knowledge of payments regulatory frameworks and/or regulations 

  • Familiarity with global KYC, UBO and AML standards (e.g., source of financial support, ultimate ownership)

  • Understanding of trigger points and content of SARs 

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills; global collaborator with strong communications skills

  • The ability to work independently and lead by example and provide directional guidance to other FlyMates

  • A strong attention to detail with an ability to execute tasks within a small and flexible team

  • The ability to organize workload to meet deadlines and manage competing and sometimes changing priorities

  • A proven track record of execution and delivery of tasks through to completion
