#OfficeEnvy: Inside Flywire’s Newly Expanded Downtown HQ

janvier 21, 2020

A personalized shuffleboard table. A glowing neon sign. Cold brew on tap—just feet from a mini fridge filled with even more cold brew. These are just a few of the features of Flywire’s headquarters at 141 Tremont St., where the company has just expanded onto the 11th floor after occupying the 9th and 10th floors.

Flywire’s Boston headquarters is currently home to 104 employees, which it affectionately calls “FlyMates.” The 10-year-old fintech company is one of the fastest-growing in Massachusetts: In November, it hired Rob Orgel as its first president and chief operating officer, and in July 2018, it closed a $100 million Series D round, bringing its total funding to $143 million. Flywire was one of BostInno’s Coolest Companies in 2019.

This year, CEO Mike Massaro told our sister publication the Boston Business Journal, Flywire is planning to add between 75 and 100 people working in marketing, sales, client services, compliance and finance. The vast majority of those will be based in Boston.

Those new employees will have a nice space to work from. Flywire’s office is surrounded by windows overlooking the Boston Common and downtown, with natural light hitting nearly every desk. Through a partnership with the nonprofit ArtLifting, the space is adorned with original artwork.

The conference rooms on each floor are named thematically: The 9th-floor conference rooms are all named after ocean animals, the 10th-floor ones after land animals and the 11th-floor ones after flying animals. Flywire’s team is hoping to take over the 12th floor at some point. When I asked spokeswoman Samantha Mackowitz how her team will name the conference rooms on that floor, she joked, “maybe outer space and aliens.”
