Flywire is seeking a Data Privacy Specialist to join our Risk & Security team to contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive privacy program to mitigate privacy risks across the organization.
It is typical for Flywire to process Personal Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of individuals around the world. This would include financial information, medical records, national ID’s, birthdates and contact information.
Key responsibilities of this position include privacy operations support, privacy compliance activities, evaluating and recommending process improvements and technology solutions, documentation of critical actions, privacy consultations, and resolving data subject access requests.
The role requires an understanding of current global privacy regulations and methodologies. As well as overlaying regulatory knowledge with that understanding to implement operational requirements in a fast-paced environment. The privacy specialist will interact with business stakeholders to assess and advise on how data privacy is accounted for in our day today business operations and to influence stakeholders to understand the importance of privacy. The privacy specialist will need to work closely with IT, security, analytics, legal and compliance teams, the privacy specialist will need to solve complex privacy problems to reduce risk to privacy-related requirements.
Responsibilities:
- This role will support and help implement operational processes for the various business units in accordance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
- Maintaining records of all data processing activities conducted by the company, including all processing activities. Interfacing with data subjects to inform them on their rights, how their data is being used, and what processes the company has put in place to protect their data.
- Assist in documenting requirements for the development and/or enhancement of privacy program technology solutions and provide training related to the program
- Assist with projects/strategies to enhance privacy and confidentiality preparedness based on emerging trends and risks
- Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of technology solutions to enhance confidentiality and privacy processes.
- Monitor and ensure appropriate handling of incoming privacy requests and complaints from data subjects
- Stay informed of current privacy threats, trends, pending industry changes, and new privacy regulations.
- Monitor compliance with various privacy laws and regulations.
- Manage and maintain Data protection agreements, Privacy impact assessments, and Sub-processors to help ensure compliance.
- Assist in the development of best practices to assess the potential impact on organization processes, policies, or procedures.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business, privacy or compliance related field and a minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience required.
- An understanding of basic data privacy concepts and applicable regulations is minimally required
- One or more of the following professional certifications preferred: CIPP, CIPT, CIPM CISSP, CRISC, CISA, or sufficient demonstrated experience and/or formal education in Privacy and Compliance
Required Professional and Technical Skills:
- Excellent communications (oral and written), problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Strong client service orientation and confidence in communicating with external third parties
- Confidence in working across teams and facilitating complicated discussions with many participants
